Assignments for 3rd Year (or above) WTMC Students Who Plan to Graduate in May 2024, or August 2024 (with permission from Dean Covert):

*What YOU need to do NOW:

  • Review the "Credit Review" sent to you by Ms. Hanson in your school email. If you have any questions, schedule a meeting with Ms. Hanson by clicking here - https://calendly.com/chanson-wtmc.

  • Assignment above for ALL 3rd year students should be complete. You should have completed this by WIN 24 Semester if you plan to graduate in May 2024, or have special permission from Dean Covert to graduate in August 2024.

  • Ms. Hanson has completed and submitted the WCC electronic "Graduation Application" on your behalf. Please let her know of any changes to your graduation date or degree/certificate program.  https://www.wccnet.edu/learn/graduation/ so that she can notify the college.

Pay attention to these deadlines for the WCC Graduation Application. WCC will respond via email to verify your status toward graduation:

  • April 26, 2024 – Last day to apply for graduation after Winter semester

(Graduation in May 2024)

  • July 26, 2024 – Last day to apply for Spring/Summer semester that ends in August (Graduation in August 2024 - Only for WTMC students who have been approved by the Dean).  This application opens March 1st.

If you are NOT planning to graduate in May 2024, or AUGUST 2024 (or you are NOT earning a WCC certificate or degree) then the WCC Graduation Application does NOT apply to you at this time. You will complete this later - the semester before you plan to graduate both WTMC and WCC (if earning a certificate or degree).

If you are planning to apply to a 4-year college this Fall Semester (planning to attend in the Fall of 2024) follow these steps NOW:

1) Research & Plan

2) After reviewing the above resources, create and begin completing your Common Application after August 1, 2023.

WTMC Information for Common Application:

You will apply as a first year, undergraduate student (not a transfer student)

  • WTMC Graduating Class Size for the  2023-2024 School Year = 303

  • WTMC does NOT rank

  • Report your Middle College cumulative GPA, and it is an "Unweighted" GPA

  • Characterize your college classes as "Dual Enrollment"

  • WTMC is organized by semesters, although the common app only allows for recording 2 semesters. If you took a 3rd semester (spring) - record those classes in semester 2. Colleges will receive your transcript, which will show the proper organization

3) Add Ms. Hanson as your Counselor on your Common Application (you can only do this after you have added at least one college to your "My Colleges" tab and completed the FERPA release section):

Ms. Colleen Hanson, WTMC School Counselor    email: cahanson@wccnet.edu  phone: 734-677-5364

  • Email Ms. Hanson this BRAG SHEET once you complete it, so that she can complete the “Counselor” part of your application which includes a recommendation. Give her plenty of time to complete the recommendation.

  • Invite any teacher(s)/instructor(s) if a letter/letters of recommendation are required for your application. You do this by entering their name and email information into the application system, AFTER you have made a personal request to them. Give them plenty of time to write and submit your letter of recommendation.

  • Provide teacher recommenders with a completed Teacher BRAG SHEET

For questions about assigning recommenders in the Common Application visit this link - How do I assign my recommenders? (commonapp.org)

4) Request your "OFFICIAL" transcripts from WTMC and WCC:

  • To Order WTMC Official Transcripts: If you applied through the Common Application, or the Coalition Application, you need to have added Ms. Hanson as your "Counselor" and she will upload and send your "official" WTMC transcript. For other application systems, you will need to email Ms. Pause (cpause@wccnet.edu) and request a WTMC "official" transcript to be sent directly to the college/university. Again, Ms. Pause's email address is cpause@wccnet.edu, make sure to give her your identifying information and the address where to send the transcript, as well as any required deadline.

  • To Order WCC Official Transcripts: You will need to order your "Official" WCC transcript to be sent: 1) First to colleges you are applying to, 2) Then once again when you graduate and decide which college or university you will be attending.

    • Go to the WCC Transcript Ordering Website: https://www.wccnet.edu/learn/request-transcript.php. Scroll down to the area titled, "How to Order" and click on "Current Students". Then click on the blue link "National Student Clearinghouse". There is a fee. This is important because you want to receive credit for your college classes!

5) Send your standardized test scores (check the college requirements, some colleges are still test-optional).

*Test scores from either the SAT and/or ACT are NOT reported on your WTMC transcript. If the college requires a test score, or if you are choosing to send a test score, you will need to order the score report directly from the testing company, who will send it directly to the college. Colleges will accept either test and scores from any, or all, test dates (unless they are a test-blind school, where they do not look at test scores).

6) Submit your college application(s) by November 1st for Early Action/Notification (unless an earlier deadline applies to you).

This does NOT mean you are obligated to attend a college if you are admitted.

7) Begin your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - The new version went live on December 31, 2023 for college attendance during the 2024-2025 academic year.

  • Anyone who wants to be considered for any type of financial aid for college must complete

  • Comes out this year in December 31st (2023). Usually it comes out October 1st of each year.

  • Deadline for the State of Michigan is May 1st

  • Federal financial aid programs

  • State financial aid programs

8) Search and Apply for Scholarships:

  • Most scholarships come from the colleges and you will be considered for them once you submit your application and the FAFSA form (so complete these as early as possible).

  • Check the colleges' financial aid website for information about other scholarships that require additional applications. Pay attention to the deadlines published!

  • Ms. Hanson will post scholarships on this "Announcements" page. Check often!

If you have any questions, schedule a meeting with Ms. Hanson by clicking here - https://calendly.com/chanson-wtmc.
