TurnUp Civics Remote Internship Program

About TurnUp (www.turnup.us): We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing youth civic engagement and activism to strengthen our democracy. We believe that everyone should be able to access their civic and activist potential. TurnUp has registered over 400,000 young voters since 2019 and our team has completed more than 90,000 hours of get out the vote volunteering.

 

 

Unpaid remote internship or volunteer opportunity, 5-30 (flexible) hours per week and flexible start and end dates. Join our team of mission-driven young people from all around the United States to help amplify youth civic engagement and participate in activism on many issues that you care about like climate change, criminal justice, reproductive rights, ending gun violence, and combating voter suppression in the United States.

More Internship Details: This is a great opportunity for those looking to impact change in their community, refine their activist efforts, strengthen democracy in the United States, and meet other like-minded young people! Interns will collaborate on a variety of tasks, communicate regularly, and meet virtually on a weekly basis. This is a collaborative internship where interns will develop their democratic competency. Interns participate in civic actions, organize voter registration and turnout projects in their communities, perform targeted outreach, engage in advocacy and activism, find and participate in volunteer opportunities together, attend the TurnUp Speaker Series, as well as do civic and activism related research and writing. Most importantly, they will work together to advocate for issues important to young people, fight voter suppression and boost youth voter turnout in the United States. Upon completion, interns are prepared to go forward being civically responsible and engaged activists.

Program Highlights

  1. Engaging Legal Experience: Selected applicants will become integral members of high-volume trial lawyer teams, immersing themselves in the practical aspects of the legal profession. As student lawyers and investigators, they will actively participate in all facets of the criminal justice system, including "hands-on" courtroom experience, one-on-one client interactions, and extensive research and writing opportunities.

  2. Courtroom Exposure: Under the direct supervision of experienced trail attorneys, student lawyers may have the chance to appear on the record within the actual courtroom, gaining valuable real-world experience and confidence in their legal abilities. 

  3. Comprehensive Orientations and Reviews: To ensure a rewarding experience, the program conducts in-depth orientations and comprehensive reviews for the Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall terms, scheduled in January, May, and September, respectively. These sessions are designed to prepare interns for their roles and to address any queries they may have throughout their internship.

  4. Flexible Terms: The program offers internships during the Winter/Springs, Summer, and Fall terms, catering to the availability and academic schedules of potential interns.

  5. Win-Win Collaboration: The internship program proves mutually beneficial for both the student intern and the Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender. Interns gain practical exposure, honing their legal skills and understanding of the criminal justice system, while the Office benefits from augmenting its capacity to consistently provide top-quality legal representation. additionally, the program aids in reducing operational costs for the Office.

 

Eligibility and Application Process

Applicants must be enrolled in law school or an accredited college. They should possess a strong academic record and demonstrate a genuine passion for criminal law and public defense. The application process is competitive, with successful candidates displaying a commitment to justice, integrity, and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those they represent. 


Program Capacity

Each term, the program accommodates an average of approximately 40 interns. This ensures a manageable and enriching experience for each intern, allowing them to receive individualized attention and guidance from experienced attorneys.


Internship Schedules

Our Internship Program requires that all interns commit to minimum of two days per week, dedicating 4 to 6 hours each day, resulting in a weekly total of 8 to 12 hours. for social work and investigator interns, schedules may be subject to variations based on school requirements and the prevailing caseloads at the office.

Interns enjoy the flexibility of coordinating their schedules within our operational hours, which run from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. Moreover, student lawyers may have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with our Arraignment Division on weekends for weekend arraignments, subject to availability.


Internship Start Date(s)

The Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender requires all interns to be available to start their internship within one week of their designated orientation date. we understand the importance of a timely commencement to ensure a smooth transition into the program and maximize the learning experience. 


For Interns who are unable to begin within the specified one-week timeframe, we offer the option of being placed on our waitlist for the respective term. While we prioritize accommodating interns who can start on time, we also recognize that circumstances may arise that could affect the start date. by joining the waitlist, interns express their commitment to participating in the program, and we will make every effort to accommodate them as soon as possible if openings become available. Rest assured that we value the dedication of all our interns and strive to create a rewarding and impactful experience for each individual.

The Office of the Public Defender will review all applications and conduct interviews to select the most qualified candidates for each term. We accept internship applications on a rolling basis. The Ann Arbor Police Department

Int​​​er​​nship P​​​​rogram


 

The Ann Arbor Police Department Student Internship Program is designed to provide a positive learning environment where interested college students can experience the various aspects and responsibilities of a progressive law enforcement agency.  Interns c​​​an be assigned to operational, administrative and support functions within the Ann Arbor Police Department.  ​

What are interns expe​​​cted to do?

  • ​Interact with the public in a professional manner. This will include tasks such as taking phone calls, assisting officers in their interactions with the public, witnesses and suspects, and attending community events.   

  • Assist with administrative duties to include community projects through the Community Engagement Unit and the Training Unit, recruiting AAPD employees, coordinating citizen volunteer groups, web page design, social media development, and taking an​ active role in planning community events.  

  • Gain experience with various sections in AAPD to include Investigations, Patrol Operations and Traffic Services including ride-a-longs, case research, statistical analysis of crimes and crime patterns, traffic safety activities, and public outreach events.   

  • Optional: A project ​may be assigned for the duration of the internship based upon department needs. ​

 

How do​ I q​uali​​fy to become an intern?  ​

  • The student must be enrolled in an accredited university or college

  • The student must be currently enrolled, through their respective college or university, in an internship or independent study

  • The student must have a 2.5 or higher-grade point average based on a 4.0 scale

  • Be at least 18 years of age

 

Physical requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

  • Move and lift light objects less than 20 lbs. such as mail, files, and supplies.

Application Details

 

Applications for the 2026 CDE Summer Clinic internship will open on February 4th, 2026. The final deadline to apply is April 24, 2026. Interviews will take place in May, with decisions made by Memorial Day.

 

The Center for Digital Engagement (CDE) offers a part-time, 10-hour-per-week paid internship in digital. The rate is $20/hour, and the internship lasts 9 weeks, typically running from early June through early August. Interns work in teams of two with startup companies in Ann Arbor SPARK’s high-tech business incubator.

 

There are two activities in addition to the paid part of the internship. First, you will obtain individual certification on an approved digital platform (for example, Google Analytics). Second, you will attend weekly coaching and all-hands meetings related to your work. These activities are part of a mentoring program to prepare you for entering the digital workforce. Internship meetings will be both in-person and online. In-person meetings will take place primarily in Ypsilanti, MI and Ann Arbor, MI.

 

All higher ed students and recent graduates (within the past 18 months) in Southeast Michigan are welcome to apply. We’ve had successful interns from a wide range of regional and national institutions, including EMU, WCC, UM, MSU, WSU, WMU, CMU, Schoolcraft, Dartmouth College, and Columbia University, among others.

 

The key elements of the application include a statement of purpose and a resume. Applicants are encouraged to thoughtfully craft these materials, as every submission is carefully reviewed. Even part-time jobs demonstrate your reliability and work ethic. Your statement of purpose will better help us understand what you think you can do. Be daring and go for it. The worst that can happen is that we do not offer you the internship.

ELIGIBILITY

You are eligible to apply for an EBF Summer Internship if you meet ALL of the following:


  • Are a high school senior OR an undergraduate college student who is graduating Spring 2026 or later

  • Plan to attend or are currently a student at a four-year accredited U.S. college or university (This includes students who will transfer to a four-year accredited U.S. college or university in Spring 2026 or Fall 2026.)

  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0

  • Are able to commit to a summer internship that will last at minimum 8 continuous weeks, with most internships having a longer mandatory length as specified by each partner company’s internship duration requirement. The internship starts and end dates are determined by the partner company.)

  • Are currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the assigned mentor, each Intern will work side by side with our team of professionals to create a thriving and captivating living experience for renters across the nation. The Student Housing Operations Internship will provide an opportunity for the Intern to experience Student Housing and all of its facets, including Marketing, Property Operations, and Facilities Management. We are looking for Interns with a great attitude, who are team-players, that will embody their university, and relate well to potential residents at their respective property. 


Essential Functions:

o   Serve as a property ambassador and leasing agent to provide exceptional service for our

students/residents and prospects

o   Provide superior customer service via phone, email, and in-person communication 

o   Provide support in social media initiatives and prospect outreach

o   Conduct unit walks and property condition assessments

o   Guide prospects through all phases of the leasing/prospect journey

The internship program will enable participants to develop their technical skills and gain practical experience in the field of analytical testing industry, specifically in the area of the laboratory testing industry known as Testing Inspection and Certification (TIC).


Duration

The internship program will be offered during the summer semester, for a period of 8-12 weeks assigned to either the Milling and Molding, Materials, or Biosafety Cabinetry laboratories, while being exposed to all areas of the Ann Arbor Laboratories. 


Responsibilities

  • Assisting laboratory staff in conducting tests and experiments

  • Preparing samples for analysis and running various analytical tests

    • Aseptic techniques, Preventative contamination procedures, sample identification and organization

  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments

    • Analytical balances, CNC machines, Calipers, Load Frames, Ovens

  • Recording and analyzing experimental data

  • Supporting laboratory staff in activities such as ordering supplies, sample management, data review/archival, laboratory maintenance

    • Chemical inventories, Instrument cataloging, 6s (Laboratory Safety) 


Qualifications

The Bird Center of Michigan

Position: Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern



Dates: This position will be from May 2026 through mid/end of August 2026. Fall internship positions TBD. Opportunities to start in mid to late April is possible for those with the availability.


Pay: Part-time and full-time hours are available. Part-time (21-22 hrs. a week) will receive a $171.60 stipend bi-weekly, and full-time (35-37 hrs. a week) will receive a $300 stipend bi-weekly.


Schedule: Shifts for interns are from 8 am to 3 pm and 1 pm to 8 pm. Possibility of switching from 7 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 9 pm based on Center needs. BCM work schedules include working rotated AM and PM weekdays and weekends and includes some government holidays. We ask that you have minimal requests off for the busy summer season.


Housing: We are unable to provide housing accommodations for out-of-state interns. Those who have interned from out of state in the past have found accommodations in neighboring Ann Arbor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Should be enrolled, or plan to be, in a program that has to do with wildlife, conservation, science program, pre-vet, etc.

  • Should have animal handling experience, knowledge, and appreciation.

  • For health and safety reasons, interns must be in good health, not pregnant, and at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to bend, lift, and be on your feet for an extended period of time.

  • Valid State ID and an up-to-date tetanus shot is a requirement.

  • Reliable transportation to get to and from work.


Duties and Responsibilities
