Part Time WCC Sports Student Assistant

The Part time WCC Sports – Student General Student Fund is responsible for providing assistance to the total operation of the WCC Sports Department. This is a student leadership position. To be considered, you must maintain or exceed the academic standards required for participation within SDA by maintaining a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 (six) credit hours per semester. Continuation of employment is reviewed end of each semester.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
PROGRAM SUPPORT:
Support the programming and activities within WCC Sports.
• Prepare, monitor and lead sporting events and tryouts; assist coaches as needed.
• Provide pre-event logistics support: planning, preparation, promotion, and organization.
• Provide onsite event support: setup, check-in, and clean-up.
• Assist with post-event support: communication, data collection, assessment, documentation.
• Ability to referee intramural sports (as needed)
• Gain knowledge of the variety of WCC Sports opportunities including Club Sports, Intramural Sports, Esports, Virtual Programming and Drop-In Sports to assist students and staff
• Assist with maintaining database of potential student-athletes.
• Contact vendors regarding leagues and equipment.
• Assist with developing and managing templates for schedules, rosters, vehicle request forms, and other appropriate forms.
PROMOTION & MARKETING
• Actively recruit current students to participate in sports, targeting a diverse student body, by overseeing recruiting events, creating and distributing informative material, and discovering student’s interests through walk-ins etc.
• Assist with the developing and implementing strategies to market sports programs on and off campus and within the community such as, but not limited to: posters, signage, flyers, social media, etc.
• Attend planning meetings alongside the Sports Manager and learn to develop meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and communications is support of programming.
• Participate in public speaking for in-class and promotions and campus-wide events – in-person and virtually.
• Ability to create promotional videos.
• Assist marketing efforts involving the utilization of Alpha (college mascot)
TEAM COMMUNICATION
• Assist with reports and results of all practices, scrimmages, and competitions.
• Provide consistent interoffice communication to keep the staff aware of program progress, processes, and support needs.
• Communicate information regarding eligibility, tryouts, schedules, cancellations, marketing, etc. with athletes, coaches, vendors, and other departments.
PERFORMANCE & DEVELOPMENT
• Consistently work to improve your skills within the WCC Sports staff competencies.
• Help other staff members improve their skills within the S.D.A. staff competencies.
• Record your professional experience and progress via resume, online tools, and portfolio.
Related Duties:
BASIC OFFICE & CUSTOMER SERVICE
• Represent the WCC Sports Office in a professional and positive manner at all times.
• Answer phones and greet visitors with outstanding customer service.
• Reply to emails in a timely fashion from students, staff, faculty, community members, coaches, and other college programs.
• Organize, inventory, and maintain equipment and storage area.
• Perform other day-to-day office duties and maintain coverage during office hours as requested.
• Any other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule:
We are looking for individuals who have flexibility in schedules, as we have a mix of office hours and sports tryouts/events to cover throughout the week. Be available during regular business hours: Monday-Thursday 9a-6p, and Friday 9a-4p. Be flexible for other sporting games/events that can happen throughout the week: Monday-Friday 3p-11p and Saturday and Sunday 10a-8p. These schedule requirements will be in place for subsequent semesters after being hired and are mandatory to continued eligibility for this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 (six) credit hours per semester.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Attitude and willingness to strive for excellent customer service.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneDrive, Planner and Outlook.
• Basic understanding of Google Drive, Google Calendars, and Google Keep.
• Basic understanding on Internet usage, social media, Zoom, and other web apps.
• Basic understanding of marketing software, such as Adobe Illustrator and/or Canva
• Ability to compose and edit office correspondence and other written materials.
• Proficiency in correct English grammar and spelling.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
• Maintain a positive, team-driven attitude while supporting our students, colleagues, and community.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
• Must have general sports knowledge.
• Maintain and contribute to an organized workspace.
• Ability to adjust and deal with unusual circumstances.
• Preference goes to those who are entering a sport management/event management type of field and has evenings available.

The Student Development & Activities Student Worker is a 19.5 hour per week student position responsible for supporting operations and special activities within the following programs of the Department of Student Development and Activities: Student Development; Student Activities; Student Organizations
Due to the nature of this student leadership position, candidates are expected to maintain or exceed the academic standards required for participation within the Department of Student Development and Activities:
• Stay enrolled within at least 6 credit hours
• Maintain above a 2.0 cumulative GPA
Continued employment is conditional on these standards and is reviewed at the end of each semester. This is a student position and all applicants must commit to being enrolled in classes for at least six credit hours at WCC for at least one year: (All three semesters: Summer, Fall, and Winter.)

• Actively seek information and maintain a complete understanding of department activities.
• Effectively communicate detailed information on events, organizations, college policies, department procedures, student responsibilities, support services, staff roles, and more…
• Relay messages and meeting requests to appropriate staff. Run errands on campus.
• Open/close/cover the front reception desk in absence of the Technical Assistant.
• Assist in maintaining the checkout system and supply inventory for S.D.A.
• Follow all department procedures as implemented by Director.
• Maintain a clean and organized office area.
OTHER
• Participate on College task forces and committees as assigned by the Director.
Hours/Schedule: This is an on-campus position. These schedule requirements will be in place for subsequent semesters after being hired and are mandatory to continued eligibility for this position.
Be available during peak event hours for at least two of the four peak days per week:
• Monday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Tuesday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Wednesday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Thursday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Be available for a total of 15-19 hours during regular business hours:
• Monday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Tuesday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Wednesday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Thursday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Become available for evening and weekend events with advanced notice and scheduling.
Minimum Qualifications:
